Basic French Toast

Having a basic french toast recipe in your back pocket can open doors for many different variations. It is one of my favorite breakfast meals whether plain or topped with seasonal fruit. A comfort food that will always satisfy.



  • 8 slices bread, your choice

  • 3 eggs

  • 1/2 cup of milk

  • 1 tsp vanilla

  • 2 tbsp cinnamon

  • Pinch of salt

  • Pinch of sugar

  • Fruit of choice

  • Powdered sugar for garnish


  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine all ingredients and whisk together until blended.

  2. Preheat nonstick pan or cast iron to medium heat.

  3. Dip one slice of bread into the egg mixture at a time, only cooking 2-3 slices of bread at a time in the pan. Stir egg mixture after each dip to ensure enough cinnamon coverage.

  4. Cook until brown, about 2 minutes on each side.

  5. Top with fruit of choice and a sprinkle of powdered sugar.
